The National Publication For Buyers And Sellers
Of Old Pipes and Related Items -- Inaugural Issue
The
growth and survival of a collectibles-oriented hobby are based on
nostalgia, esthetics, market place access, investment potential and
support services. Pipe collecting is no different. Seeing a void in this
formula, we have designed a website to help
fill the void; this is being done by a pipe collector for all other pipe
collectors. Antique and Vintage Pipe
Classified is a site under construction that will provide
a media for selling, buying and services ads. It will also provide a
convenient and collector-friendly place for educating and informing
collectors by displaying articles, galleries and events. Our purpose is
to support and reinforce the efforts of, not compete with, clubs and
other publications, and we would hope that they would support our
endeavor.
Website
development, maintenance and expansion costs will be funded primarily by
a modest annual subscription fee for access to the classified section.
All other sections will be available to subscribers and non-subscribers
alike at no cost. A $15 annual fee will entitle the private or business
subscriber to place one 20-word ad each month in the
Antique and Vintage Pipe Classified.
Additional words or ads may be included at 15 cents per word. Business
card ad space will also be available at a reasonable cost.
The
inaugural issue of Antique and Vintage Pipe
Classified is planned
for January 2002. To encourage your participation, we are offering a
FREE TRIAL SUBSCRIPTION. Please send up
to three ads to us at either the email or snail mail address that
appears below. Scanner photos may be included by email or, eventually,
website link only.
We
are also sending out a call for papers on any phase of antique and
vintage pipe collecting accompanied by photographs. Papers submitted are
subject to space limitations and will be accepted at the discretion of
the editorial committee that Mr. Ben Rapaport has agreed to chair. Items
sent by snail mail cannot be returned. Authors will retain copyright of
their material, but will grant the webmaster, in writing, permission to
publish the paper online.
Initially,
our intent is to open this site to as broad a collecting field as
possible. 19th and 20th
Century carved meerschaum pipes and cheroot holders, carved wood pipes,
and porcelain pipes is our principal focus. One-of-a-kind, arty,
limited-edition and investment-grade briar pipes of later production
will also be accepted, as space permits. If you have pipes for sale,
specific pipe “wants,” or need pipe-collector-related services, we want
you! All transactions are between the buyer and seller; the owner and
webmaster of this site will not be held responsible for either the
content or authenticity of the ads placed or for the transactions
between buyer and seller. All items for sale must be completely and
accurately described, and must include the following essential
descriptive details: (a) length, width and height; (b) condition; (c)
distinguishing characteristics or maker’s marks; (d) provenance; and (e)
price. Sellers who do not follow this policy will be removed from the
subscriber list. On this site there are no listing fees or commissions.
To place an ad you must be a subscriber (free
trial membership for a limited period).
We look forward to hearing from you
and helping you make this hobby both a pleasure and an opportunity for
investment. We welcome all suggestions. For this to work, we need you on
our side.
Thanks!
